
Interfax reported that the amount of natural gas transiting Ukraine and bound for Europe decreased by 11.93% YoY or by 1.247 billion cubic meters to 9.208 billion cubic meters in January 2012.
The press service to Ukrainian gas transport company Ukrtransgaz, a subsidiary of national oil and gas company Naftogaz Ukrainy, said that January 2012 gas transit to Western Europe was down 12.2% YoY or by 1.226 billion cubic meters at 8.823 billion cubic meters and transit to countries in the CIS was down 5.19% or by 21.13 million cubic meters at 385.71 million cubic meters.
The company said that "During this period, the transportation of natural gas in to countries in Europe was performed in accordance with their orders and the reduction in transportation volume in January 2012 for consumers is explained by mild weather conditions in the early part of the month."
