Interfax reported that top executives from Gazprom and Itochu Corp discussed joint efforts to explore the possibility of producing liquefied and condensed gas in the Vladivostok region for subsequent export to Japan and other Asia-Pacific countries at a meeting recently.

The companies which signed a memorandum of understanding in May also discussed the possible involvement of Japanese companies in high tech projects related to the Eastern Gas Program.

Itochu Corp has been doing business with Gazprom for more than 30 years. It in consortium with Sumitomo and Mitsui supplied pipes for the submarine section of the Blue Stream gas pipeline.

The Sakhalin-Khabarovsk-Vladivostok gas pipeline system due to enter service in Q3 of 2011 is a key aspect of the Eastern Gas Program.
