Kyrgyzstan budget surplus totals 0.8% of GDP in 2008

Interfax quoted the National Statistics Committee said in a report that Kyrgyzstan's state budget had a surplus of KGS 1.565 billion in 2008, or 0.8% of GDP.

Budget revenue grew 29.5% to KGS 46.596 billion in 2008, while expenditures rose 25.6% to KGS 45.032 billion. Taxes accounted for KGS 35.925 billon of revenue. The tax revenue broke down as follows: 36% from VAT on imported goods and services, 12.9% from taxes on international trade operations, 10.9% from income tax, 10% from VAT on goods and services produced in the country and 7.2% from corporate taxes.

Non-tax payments totaled KGS 8.155 billion in 2008 with 58.1% of that amount coming from revenue from the sale of goods and services.

Social and cultural events accounted for 59.8% of budget expenditures last year, general spending, defense, public order and security accounted for 33.1% and environmental protection accounted for 1%.

Kyrgyz GDP grew 7.6% to KGS 185.014 billion in 2008.
