In Saint Petersburg under the aegis of FSUE Central Research Institute of Structural Material “Prometey”, OJSC MMK representatives met the Institute specialists and shipbuilding companies.

Such events involving MMK and its major sectoral consumers since long ago became usual. In the course of the meeting the participants considered questions of producibility of ship steels by the 5,000 mm Plate Mill, perspectives of the industry development, requirements for ship steel rolled material, shipped product quality and perspectives of joint cooperation.

The companies of shipbuilding industry showed a keen interest in the 5,000 mm Plate Mill products and expressed interest in procurement of steel plates from this mill which can meet both current and potential requirements of shipbuilders.

In July 2009 in Rolling shop no. 9 of OJSC MMK it is planned to launch 5,000 mm Thick Plate Mill designed for satisfying the needs of the pipe industry and also for ship, bridge and heavy machine building sectors.

In mid June the meetings of representatives of MMK technical and commercial services with specialists of Central Research Institute of Structural Material “Prometey” resulted in signing contracts between OJSC MMK and departments of FSUE Central Research Institute of Structural Material “Prometey” for research and technology work. This work will enable to facilitate development of technologies and mastery of production of common and advance strength steel thick plates for shipbuilding, off-shore structures and transfer pipelines.
