President of the United Metallurgical Company Mr Vladimir Markin took part in the ceremony of commissioning the pipeline Nord Stream which was held on Tuesday in Lubmin in North Eastern Germany. Symbolic valve tap the longest in the world of 1224 kilometres gas pipeline "Nord Stream" opened by the President of Russia Mr Dmitry Medvedev, German Chancellor Ms Angela Merkel Prime Minister of the Netherlands Mr Mark Rutte, the French Prime Minister Mr Francois Fillon, EU Energy Commissioner Mr Günther Oettinger. United Metallurgical Company became the only Russian supplier of pipes for the project. Results for the first and second stages pipeline was manufactured and delivered more than 460 thousand tons of pipes 1220 mm in diameter with a wall thickness of 30.9, 34.6 and 41.0 mm. The project has produced and delivered OMC unique batch of pipes with wall thickness up to 41 mm which can withstand pressure of 220 atmospheres.

Mr Vladimir Markin President of the OMC said "We are satisfied with the work on the project Nord Stream. This is the most complex pipeline today. We are proud to have become the only Russian supplier of pipes, ahead of many Western leaders recognized the pipe market. Thanks to massive investments in upgrading and building new facilities OMC today produces tubes of any complexity and the highest quality. In recent years, our company has accumulated a unique experience in the supply of pipes for five submarines truboproektov. This Nord Stream, the oil terminal Varandey in the White Sea, Baidarata Bay, Dzhubga-Lazarevskoe-Sochi and Sakhalin-Khabarovsk-Vladivostok."

After starting the second stage of the pipeline at the end of next year, Nord Stream will reach its design capacity 55 billion cubic meters of fuel per year.
