Ukrainian News Agency reported that the Naftogaz of Ukraine national joint-stock company plans to buy about 26 billion cubic meters of natural gas from the Gazprom gas company in 2012 instead of the previously planned 27 billion cubic meters.

Mr Yurii Boiko minister of Energy and the Coal Industry said that "This year, we will buy 26 billion cubic meters from Russia. We announced 27 but we will buy 26. Naftogaz of Ukraine will conduct settlement with Gazprom exclusively for the volume of gas consumed.”

Naftogaz of Ukraine plans to reduce gas imports from Russia to 20 billion cubic meters in 2013. At the same time, it plans to import 5 billion cubic meters of gas from Europe.

Originally, Naftogaz of Ukraine applied to import 27.5 billion cubic meters of gas but it was not granted by Gazprom. Naftogaz of Ukraine then placed order for 24.5 billion cubic meters of gas.

According to the approved balance of importation and distribution of natural gas in 2012, total gas imports in 2012 will be about 35 billion cubic meters, out of which 8 billion cubic meters will be imported by OstChem Limited.
