Interfax cited Mr Dmitry Medvedev Russian President as saying that the Nord Stream gas pipeline was built in accordance with the strictest environmental requirements, and there have been many discussions of those requirements.

Mr Medvedev said the main thing is that today everyone sees that the tasks of this project are absolutely pragmatic or economic. It is possible to say with confidence that the new gas pipeline will be the most modern in this sphere and in the sphere of protecting the environment especially.
