Azeri Times reported that Azerbaijan’s largest steel foundry, the Baku Steel Company, which suspended production due to a lack of raw materials, will resume operation on April 20h 2009.
Mr Axel Borowski newly appointed president said that it’s metal procurement network would be expanded as the company buys scrap metal for AZM 120 per tonne (USD150).
He said that "Although the country has enough scrap metal to last for 10 years, procurement is not at the desired level. The shortage of metal prevents us from operating continuously,.
Mr Borowski added that the steel mill might suspend operations again after 10 days
He said that the main goal was to operate without interruption. To do this, the enterprise needs to receive about 1,000 tons of metal a day.
