
Donetsk railways in August 2010 increased cargo transportation by 9.7% YoY to 12.338 million tones.
As per report the company's turnover over the period rose by 6.5% to 3.157 billion tonne kilometers. In particular, the railways in the period under review handled 6.847 million tonnes of coal, which is 55.5% of the total cargo handling by Donetsk railways, 1.159 million tonnes of ferrous metals, 1.053 million tonnes of flux, 679,000 tonnes of coke, 453,000 tonnes of fuel and 431,000 tonnes of construction materials.
The average gross weight of a freight train was 3,288 tonnes, and its average speed was 39.3 km/h.
State run Donetsk railways was founded on May 15, 1953. It services the rail network in Donetsk, Luhansk and partly in Dnipropetrovsk, Zaporizhia and Kharkiv regions, stretching over an area of 57,000 square kilometers. It operates 239 railway stations, including 206 cargo-handling stations.
