
Russian electricity consumption may increase 2% this year and keep rising through 2016, as the economy starts to recover from the worst contraction on record last year.
Russian energy ministry said that the country may generate 961.7 billion kilowatt-hours this year, up from 942.8 billion kilowatt hours in 2009, the ministry said. Consumption is estimated to rise an average 2.9% annually for the next six years.
Russian power consumption fell last year.
The minister added that installed capacity of Russian power plants will rise by 17% to 247.7 million kilowatt-hours.
