
Itar-Tass cited Mr Cezary Grabarczyk Polish Minister of Infrastructure who co chairs the Russian-Polish intergovernmental commission for economic cooperation as saying that Russia proposed to Poland to participate in the construction of a Baltic nuclear power plant.
He said that “Russia proposed to Poland to participate in the construction of a Baltic nuclear power plant and then make joint electric power supplies to Europe through the Polish electric power grid.”
Mr Grabarczyk believes that the integration of the power grids of the countries is promising. The Polish minister also noted that Russia offered to assist in building electric power stations in Poland.
The construction of a Baltic nuclear power plant was launched in the Kaliningrad Region on February 25th 2010. In autumn 2009 Russian Prime Minister Mr Vladimir Putin signed a decree which authorized the construction of a nuclear power plant in the Kaliningrad Region. The estimated cost of the project exceeds RUB 194 billion at the price set in the first quarter of 2009.
