Meat Expert reported that Russia’s Serov Steel Works has started up a vacuum degasser, operating now in test mode. The performance tests are supposed to be finished by the end of this month and the company is planning to finally commission the unit in November.
The two chamber vacuum degasser was provided by Italy’s Danieli. Investments into the project have amounted to EUR 10 million.
As per report, commissioning of the unit will enable the works to treat about 50% of steel it produces. All special steels will be degassed, and first of all the steels intended for machine building and automotive industries. The vacuum degasser will enable the company to produce steel with a low content of non-ferrous inclusions and gases.
The start up of the degasser has completed the second stage of Serov’s plan for upgrading steelmaking production.
