Interfax quoted UAVtormet, the Ukrainian scrap metals association, as saying that Ukrainian scrap metal exports grew 9.7%YoY in January to August of 2008 to 518,500 tonnes, including 45,500 tonnes in August.

Ukrainian steel mills received 673,000 tonnes of scrap in August.

Scrap metal exports fell by 7.8% in 2007 to 688,300 tonnes. Ukrainian steel mill received 7.023 million tonnes of scrap last year or 1% more than in 2006. Scrap yards collected 7.711 million tonnes, unchanged from 2006.
