
It is reported that Russia United Shipbuilding Corporation has signed an agreement with the government of the Russian city of St Petersburg to create a shipbuilding cluster in the city.
Mr Roman Trotsenko the corporation President said under the cluster United Shipbuilding Corporation plans to attract about 200 manufactures of shipbuilding equipment to work in St Petersburg.
He said that these enterprises are produce equipment to replace that which is currently imported. Meanwhile, the city Governor Mr Georgy Poltavchenko said that shipbuilding is one of the city’s main industries.
Mr Trotsenko also said without providing the value of the project furthermore the United Shipbuilding Corporation plans to set up a joint venture with Finnish machine building company Wartsila to produce rudder propellers by the end of the year in St Petersburg.
The United Shipbuilding Corporation comprises shipbuilding, repair and maintenance facilities located in Western and Northern Russia as well as in the country Far East.
