It is reported that in order to control production costs of its 60 tonnes EAF, No.1 plant of Baosteel Special Steel Works enlarged nickel pig iron consumption in stainless steel making via adjusting technology and managing steelmaking temperature.

In January to October 2011 period, nickel pig iron consumption mounted from 40 kilogram per tonne to 233 kilogram per tonne averagely compared with the same period last year, saving nickel alloy costs of CNY 301 a tonne.
