According to the latest data released by the Brazilian Institute of Non ferrous Metals, the country's nickel production amounted to 5,148 tonnes in April 2012 from 3,553 tonnes in April 2011. It was down by 20.9% MoM. In the first four months of 2012, Brazilian nickel output totaled 22,779 tonnes, up by 75.4% YoY.

In the January to April 2012 period, Brazil exported 63.3% of its total nickel output, while the country's nickel exports more than doubled compared to the first four months of 2011, totaling 14,414 tonnes.

Meanwhile, in the first four months of 2012, nickel sales to the Brazilian domestic market including imports amounted to 6,653 tonnes, falling slightly by 0.5% YoY.
