The Canadian Press reported that the Canadian International Trade Tribunal has launched an investigation into the dumping of Chinese stainless steel sinks and their effect on the Canadian market.

The inquiry, regarding sinks with a single drawn bowl and specific measurements that originated in or were exported from China, was started after the Canada Border Services Agency said a preliminary determination had been made regarding dumping. Dumping occurs when a product is sold below fair market value in the target country.

The tribunal said that it will rule May 24th 2012 whether the dumping and subsidizing of the sinks have been a threat. The investigation is just the latest in a string by the tribunal involving China. The tribunal has previously investigated the dumping of steel tubes.

The tribunal has also announced that imports of steel grating from China would be hit with anti dumping and countervailing duties after it found the dumping and subsidizing of non stainless steel grating from China had harmed Canadian companies.
