A German market analyst forecasted that the European stainless steel production will drop by 20% in 2011 as compared with the level in 2006 before financial crisis.
He added that stainless steel production, including flat and long products, in Europe will differ from region to region.
According to a financial report, European stainless steel sales fell by 9.5% to EUR 6.1 billion in Q2, 2011, with a total operating loss of EUR 29.1 million. The loss reflected the fact that ThyssenKrupp and Outokumpu spun off the stainless steel business.
On the other hand, the other two stainless producers in EU, Acerinox and Aperam, reported that their sales in US exceeded those in EU in Q2.
