POSCO has announced that New Caledonia's nickel mining company SMSP Group's labor union visited SNNC on September 14th 2009 and September 15th 2009.
The visit was aimed at introducing the joint product between POSCO and SMSP. It was also designed to discuss their different cultures so that each could understand the other company better.
The visiting group consisting of 12 officials looked around SNNC's ferronickel plant and checked the production procedures for steel and ferronickel.
At a meeting with the One Heart Union, an employee committee at SNNC, they shared working cultures, SNNC's QSS activities, and related innovation results from the NMC-SNNC joint QSS TFT, which was launched in July. The innovative activities of NMC were also introduced at the meeting. NMC is a joint mining venture between SMSP and POSCO.
Mr Andre Moulin head of the labor union of the SMSP Group said that "It was a great experience to see Korea myself, which has been always in the picture, and SNNC's nickel plant, which is a fruitful result between POSCO and SMSP."
Thanking POSCO for the opportunity to visit, he gave POSCO a national flag of New Caledonia and some ornaments representing the country's Qaanaaq people.
SNNC plans to keep organizing the SNNC visiting program for officials in New Caledonia to raise awareness of the joint project between POSCO and SMSP.
