Outokumpu will launch a report which, they commissioned from Arup Materials Consulting concrete expert Bryan Marsh, at this weeks Bridges Conference in Abu Dhabi.

The report considers how predictive modeling assists the selective use of Stainless Steel Reinforcing Bar in concrete structures exposed to corrosive environments.

Mr Murray Adair rebar product manager of Outokumpu said that "It has been quite clear to me that where SSR has been used on the world major projects it has been specified with the use of predictive modeling and where it hasn't been used there is not the same awareness of this advance in understanding. This report, a critique by Bryan, is an important step forward in widening awareness of application of the wonderful technology that SSR brings to the issue of corrosion of reinforcement in concrete."

The report is available from link and is accompanied by the Simple Representative Model which is an Excel Spreadsheet designed to illustrate the main points of the report.

Mr Murray recently presented a paper on the corrosion resistance of stainless steels in simulated concrete pore solutions. He said that "The literary research and testing program being carried out by Sara Randstrom, at our world renown research centre in Avesta, Sweden, marks an important step in helping our customers understand how to specify SSR economically."

Mr Puru Reddy architectural, building and construction manager at Outokumpu in India said that "This is a very important step forward for India who has one of the biggest construction programs in the world with a lot of the infrastructure planned being exposed to corrosive conditions."
