Quadra FNX appoints Mr Michael Winship as its COO

Quadra FNX Mining Limited announced that Mr Michael Winship has been appointed as COO of the Company, effective September 1st 2010. Mr Winship takes over from Mr Jack Miller following his retirement as the former COO of Quadra FNX.

Mr Winship has over 30 years experience in mine development, operations and corporate business. During his career Michael has been involved in the operation or development of over 20 mines in diverse working jurisdictions including Australia, Papua New Guinea, the United States, Indonesia as well as northern Canada and the Sudbury Basin. Most recently Mr Michael was the president and COO with Hudbay Minerals Inc. Prior to Hudbay, Mr Michael was senior VP and COO with PT International Nickel Tbk.

Between 2000 and 2007 Mr Michael worked at Vale Inco where in his last position as VP of Mining & Milling he was responsible for seven nickel, copper and PGM mines and central processing milling operations in Sudbury. Prior to Vale Inco, Mr Michael was the GM for several Placer Dome operations including the Getchell Gold Mines in Nevada, USA, the Dome Mine in Timmins, Ontario and the Campbell Mine in Red Lake Ontario among others. Michael holds a bachelor's degree in mining engineering from McGill University.

He has project managed larger international mining assets, and has specialized in operational trouble shooting to expand production and reduce costs."

He said that "As we welcome Michael, it is with some sadness that we say farewell to Mr Jack Miller. Mr Jack has been instrumental in the development and growth of the Company since its inception in 2004. Under his leadership, Mr Robinson achieved full production in October 2004, Carlota was developed on schedule, on budget and brought into production in the fall of 2008 and the Franke Mine commenced production in July 2009. In addition, Mr Jack was key in the discovery and development of Sierra Gorda and most recently, he played a pivotal role in the integration of Quadra FNX. We thank him for his leadership as well as his enthusiasm and commitment to creating a culture where employees are engaged and motivated to succeed. We wish him the very best in his retirement."
