Finland based steelmaker Ruukki has announced that it has built the new steel framed industrial hall at Finland based stainless steelmaker Outokumpu's steel plant in Tornio in northern Finland. The extension was built at a logistically optimal location between the existing hot rolling mill and steel melting shop without disrupting production.

According to Ruukki's statement, the construction started in early 2008, when Outokumpu decided to increase the special steel output at its Tornio steel plant. This capacity expansion required a new grinding machine and the new production facilities to house it.

Production at the plant did not stop during the construction process. Steel billets are ground in the grinding hall. The billet conveyor belt had to operate until the new roller table to convey the billets was completed.
