
BL reported that Steel Authority of India Limited’s Salem Steel Plant won the second prize for ‘Good Industrial Relations’ for 2007 from Tamil Nadu government under the 1,000 Plus workmen category.
Mr TK Mazumdar GM P&A received the Award from Minister of Labour Mr TM Anbarasan in Chennai on Friday.
HC Justice Mr KP Sivasubramaniam presided over the function in which Chennai Mayor Mr M Subramanian and others participated.
The award has been instituted by the State to promote productivity, workers education, health, safety and resolving of all industrial relations issues by the joint efforts of management and trade unions, without the intervention of third parties.
The panel for the selection of the awardees comprises of representatives from the government of Tamil Nadu, industrial associations and trade unions. Salem Steel Plant has always maintained a cordial and peaceful industrial relations climate.
Employees’ issues have been settled in a spirit of cordiality and mutual trust and there has been no production loss. A press release that was issued by the steel plant also says that employee morale has also been effectively sustained through their involvement in small group activities.
