It is reported that SCI, the leading, independent provider and disseminator of best practice to the steel construction sector, is to add Montanstahl's range of laser fused and hot rolled structural sections to the design facility of its online stainless steel design facility software, stainless steel in construction.

The software will be extended to include Montanstahl’s channels, I sections, T sections and angles. An online section database containing more than 500 section sizes will be developed so that users can select a particular section from the Montanstahl range for use in the design software.

The calculation engine comprises the four following modules:

1. Gross section properties calculator
2. Section classification and effective section properties calculator
3. Member capacities calculator
4. Fire resistance calculator

Mr Wolfgang Stumm MD of Montanstahl said that "Demand for high quality and custom tailored products is continuously rising. Montanstahl aims to identify the market demand first and then focus on the best technology available to manufacture high quality products. By adding our range of laser fused and hot rolled structural sections to the stainless steel in construction software we know that the right product information is reaching exactly the right audience."

He added that once complete, the software will be subject to SCI’s rigorous QA procedures prior to launching on the Internet. The product is expected to be available in early 2009. 1400 users have registered with the stainless steel in construction software since 2005, and it continues to attract 40 new registered users each month.
