Societe Nickel de Nouvelle Caledonie et Coree, a nickel processing firm in New Caledonia, has launched a special task force team with Nickel Mining Company to implement various Quick Six Sigma projects in New Caledonia.
The QSS task force has been formed to address problems including equipment malfunctions, low quality products and production decreases. Such problems occur because of the moisture and components of nickel, which is the major raw material in ferronickel.
The task force team consists of five NMC staff members, including Michel Rioux, a top executive at NMC, and five SNNC employees.
For SNNC, it is the first time for any implementation of QSS projects with an overseas partner. The company will make every effort to spread POSCO's QSS activities efficiently and to enhance the NMC staff's awareness of QSS activities.
Through the task force's teamwork, SNNC will be able to find solutions to get rid of problems in the raw materials during the mining stage. It is expected that it can hopefully reduce its ensuing costs, improve the quality of its minerals, and increase its production rate.
