Reuters reported that New Caledonia's Societe Le Nickel has suspended nickel mining at its five locations ahead of an approaching cyclone expected to slam into the South Pacific Island.

A spokeswoman of Societe Le Nickel said that the Doniambo smelter operated by SLN, a subsidiary of France's Eramet, in the capital Noumea was taking precautionary measures but continues to operate.
