Reuters reported that Finnish miner Talvivaara plans to increase its production of nickel in 2012 to 25,000 to 30,000 tonnes from the 16,000 tonnes forecast for 2011.
It said operations at the Sotkamo mine have progressed according to plan during the fourth quarter. It added that "Daily nickel precipitation since mid October 2011 has been 60 to 70 tonnes."
In October 2011, the company became one of the first miners to announce it had cut its output due to uncertainty over demand and announced the surprise departure of its CEO Mr Pekka Pera.
