Leading battery cell manufacturer AMTE Power has selected Dundee as the preferred site for its first MegaFactory in a boost to the UK’s ambitions to produce homegrown battery cells for a net zero society. The new factory will directly create up to 215 high skilled on-site jobs and 800 more across the supply chain by producing the high-performance battery cells needed to help electrify vehicles, homes, and industries for the UK’s energy transition. The MegaFactory will complement AMTE Power’s existing facility in Thurso, Caithness, enabling the company to respond to high levels of interest in its cells from customers in the automotive and energy storage markets and get them to market quicker. AMTE Power is in discussion with Scottish Enterprise to help bring the development forward, in line with the organisation’s aim to provide funding and support to drive sustainable economic growth in Scotland. The MSIP site is perfectly suited for a battery MegaFactory with a highly skilled, local workforce, onsite renewable energy, commitment from the Scottish Government for net zero manufacturing and good transport links.
