Leading global development and construction firm Skanska has recently reached a milestone by topping out at Bon Secours St Francis Medical Center in Midlothian in Vergenia where it is providing renovation and expansion services. Located at 13710 St Francis Blvd., construction includes renovations to existing spaces and the addition of two floors to help the hospital meet patient needs and provide more acute care services. The topping out signifies the placement of the highest beam on the project. Representatives from Skanska, Bon Secours, JLL, Gresham Smith and Skanska’s construction partners, commemorated the event by signing the beam, which was then placed atop the facility.The expansion aspect of the project includes adding two floors above the existing surgical department, a new med-surg nursing unit with 24 beds, an additional intensive care unit with 24 beds and neonatal intensive care unit rooms. As part of the renovation of the existing building, the former ICU unit on the third floor will be renovated to accommodate a 10-bed observation unit. The fourth floor of the adjacent medical office building will be reconfigured to serve as a new 24-bed Mother-Infant Unit with a well-baby holding nursery. Additional renovations to the hospital that were recently completed include:A new and expanded gift shopA new and expanded retail pharmacyA new MRI and women’s suiteA new preadmission testing suite with associated support spacesCentral plant upgrades including a new chiller, cooling tower, 2500kva genset, new paralleling gear to accommodate the third genset, and replacement and increased capacity of the medical grade oxygenThe renovation and expansion are projected to be completed by April 2024.
