Webuild’s US subsidiary Lane has won USD 223-million design-and-build contract to improve the safety and operational efficiency of the I-275/I-4 highway interchange used by 200,000 vehicles a day at the heart of Tampa, reinforcing Florida as a major market. It also emphasises the importance of North America as a core market for Webuild, responsible for 21% of the Group’s consolidated revenues in 2021 amid promises of further growth as the U.S. government rolls out major investment plans for the infrastructure sector. Commissioned by the Florida Department of Transportation, the contract, 100% owned by Lane, will improve the interchange’s role in helping the I-275/I-4 act as a main hurricane evacuation route for the greater Tampa Bay area. It includes widening, changing and realigning ramps; updating signage; and erecting noise barriers. Construction is scheduled to begin in 2023.Lane is already working on an adjacent contract to enhance safety and traffic operations, among other works, along the I-275 Corridor. Both projects will provide greater safety and mobility for people and goods throughout the Tampa Bay area and the entire U.S. state.
