Europe’s largest producer of coking coal Jastrzębska Spółka Węglowa and Haldex are supporting the Polish energy sector. In the Knurów-Szczygłowice mine in Ruch Szczygłowice, an installation for the production of energy pellets was launched on 1 September. It is the second installation of this type operating for the needs of JSW. Thanks to the new installation, by the end of the year, the Company will produce over 130,000 tonnes of energy pellets, which will be used to increase the amount of coal mixtures for energy purposes, which will fully supply the commercial and thermal power industry. The installation in Ruch Szczygłowice was built in just three weeks. Its owner is the company Haldex SA from Katowice, which has the greatest experience in the production of pellets on the Polish market. Haldex has five such installations. Jastrzębska Spółka Węglowa supplies and owns the material for the production of pellets. Haldex is a service provider. In the refining process, granulate is produced from fine-grained coal fractions obtained in the production of coking coal. The capacity of the installation in Ruch Szczygłowice is to reach 600 tonnes per day. The granulate is used as an admixture of power coals and, similarly to the coal produced by JSW for energy purposes, goes to commercial power plants. The introduction of additional coal for energy purposes should reduce the resource gap for producers of district heat and electricity.
