Brazilian iron ore and pellet producer has Samarco plans to expand its iron mines Alegria Norte and Alegria Sul, located between the cities of Mariana and Ouro Preto, in the southeastern state of Minas Gerais. Approval was given by the Chamber of Mining Activities of the State Council of Environmental Policy to add 35 ha to the scope of Samarco´s Corrective Operation License- LOC in April. This decision allows the company to continue with the expansion of mining in the Alegria Norte and Sul mines, at the Germano Complex in Mariana.The license obtained is fundamental for the continuity of Samarco's mining operations. The work to expand mining in the authorized areas is in compliance with the standards established by environmental agencies.Samarco informed that the expansion of the production will be made gradually, as the company is currently operating at 26 percent of its capacity, due to the restrictions derived from the collapse of the Fundao dam in 2015. The operation at full capacity is expected to be achieved in 2029.
