Samarco is a partner in the development of the PROX application launched by the Brazilian Mining Institute Ibram on 17 November 2022. The new tool, created by Cemig, Ibram and Mining Hub, with the participation of the company, provides data and information about dams in Minas Gerais and other states. PROX is a means of communication between the population living in areas close to geotechnical structures and agencies such as civil defense, fire department and military police. The tool enables real-time monitoring of information on risk areas, and provides information on self-protection procedures in case of an emergency. In addition, the application has information on hydrological, geological, burning and electrical discharge risks in all regions of Minas Gerais and six other states. The application involves information about the project's partner mining companies. It is another initiative of the sector with a view to promoting the security of communities, for the strengthening of the protection and defense system. The application was created under Cemig's Proximity of Community Relationship program for the monitoring of hydroelectric and mining plant dams. The partnership with Ibram, Mining Hub and mining companies focuses on risk communication procedures.Among the features of PROX, we highlight the contacts with main response agents such as public agencies, the definition of geographical points that can help in the evacuation of risk areas, access to self-protection procedures, such as escape routes.
