BELAZ Mining Vehicle Gas Projects in Khibiny & Mirny of ALROSA

BELAZ jointly with Russian partners continues implementation of several breakthrough projects on gas-motor mining equipment. This project meets the

mining customers’ aim to switch to alternative ecological pollution-free fuel. Joint work on gasification of BELAZ mining vehicles has two directions – gas-diesel and pure gas. The testing of 45MT BELAZ-75476 mining dumper equipped with gas piston engine will continue in the nearest time at Mirny Mining and Processing Division of the world’s leading diamond mining company PJSC “ALROSA”.

After 9 months test operation in mine of Lomonosovsky Mining and Processing Complex of PAO “Severalmaz”, affiliate of ALROSA in Arkhangelsk region, 45MT BELAZ mining dumper will continue undergo operational tests in Yakutia.

In order to receive the operation results of crucial parts and assembly units of gas-fired BELAZ dump truck, the technicians of Mirny Mining and Processing Division developed a special testing program that will take another 9 months.

ALROSA Company is highly interested in gas-motor mining vehicles. Some of its mining deposits are located in remote regions and it is possible to supply diesel fuel there only during the shipping season. This is why diesel is supplied here in reserve for a year ahead. What is more, the largest natural gas deposits that can be used as fuel are located nearby and according to the calculations the net cost of gas is hugely cheaper than diesel.

At the same time, BELAZ also takes part in the project on transfer of mining equipment to gas-diesel fuel in Murmansk region, Eastern mine of Kirovsky affiliate of OJSC “Apatit” (PhosAgro Group), the largest world’s high-grade phosphate Company. The project is being implemented within two-lateral Agreement on supply of a large batch of BELAZ dump trucks with payload capacity of 136 and 180 tons to Khibiny in order to reduce manufacturing costs of OJSC “Apatit” and production costs of open cast mining works.
