European Commissioner for Internal Market Mr Thierry Breton & European electrolyser manufacturers met in Brussels to discuss how to increase industry's capacity to produce electrolysers used to produce clean hydrogen. The Commissioner and 20 industry CEOs signed a Joint Declaration whereby industry committed to a tenfold increase of its electrolyser manufacturing capacities by 2025. This will enable the annual EU production of 10 million tonnes of renewable hydrogen by 2030, set as target in the March 2022 REPowerEU Communication. It will improve Europe's sustainable and secure energy supply and reduce EU's reliance on Russian gas.The Joint Declaration sets out a target agreed by electrolyser manufacturers in Europe to increase their manufacturing capacity tenfold to 17.5 GW per year. It also features Commission actions to put in place a supportive regulatory framework, facilitate access to finance and promote efficient supply chains. Among them:Ensuring that regulation governing the production of renewable hydrogen support a fast and affordable ramp-up of the market for renewable hydrogen and its production in EuropeAdoption of a recommendation and a legislative proposal on accelerated permitting for renewable energy projects, including renewable hydrogenAssessment of State aid notification for hydrogen projects as a matter of priorityCommitment by electrolyser manufacturers to apply only with high quality project proposals that are fully aligned with the climate targets and REPowerEU ambitionCollaboration with the EIB to facilitate the financing of electrolyser manufacturing and deployment projectsEstablishment of an ‘Electrolyser Partnership' that will bring together electrolyser manufacturers and suppliers of components and materials within the existing structures of the European Clean Hydrogen AllianceThe European Clean Hydrogen Alliance brings together industry, public authorities, civil society and other stakeholders.European Commission, Thierry Breton, Commissioner for the Internal MarketHydrogen Europe, Jorgo Chatzimarkakis, CEOAdvent, Vasilis Gregoriou, Chairman and CEOConvion, Erkko Fontell, CEOBosch, Uwe Gackstatter, President – Powertrain Solutions DivisionCummins, Alexei Ustinov, Vice President ElectrolyzersDeNora, Paolo Dellachà, CEOElogen, Jean-Baptiste Choimet, Managing DirectorEnapter, Sebastian – Justus Schmidt, ChairmanGenvia, Florence Lambert, CEOGreen Hydrogen Systems, Sebastian Koks Andreassen, CEOMetacon Group, Melissa Verykios, PresidentH2B2, Africa Castro, Founder and member of the boardHyStar, Fredrik Mowill, CEOJohn Cockerill, Jean-Luc Maurange, CEOMcPhy, Jean Baptiste Lucas, CEONEL Hydrogen, Jon André Løkke, CEOSiemens Energy, Stefano Innocenzi, Senior Vice President, New Energy BusinessSOLIDpower, Massimo Bertoldi, Deputy CEOSunfire, Christopher Frey, Senior Manager Public AffairsThyssenkrupp nucera, Denis Krude, CEOTopsoe, Roeland Baan, CEO
