Atkins to support PTA Metronet Rolling Stock Procurement

PTA Metronet Rolling Stock Procurement, the biggest railcar order in Western Australia’s history. The Metronet project is part of the Western Australia Government’s 15-year railcar strategy and will significantly expand Perth's current heavy rail network. The project also aims to achieve that 50% of the new trains are manufactured locally, bolstering the local manufacturing industry and maximising jobs locally.

As the Independent Certifier, SNC-Lavalin’s Atkins business will check and review that the rolling stock is being designed, manufactured and commissioned according to the AS7501 Rolling Stock Compliance Certification requirements. This work is a key step in facilitating the registration of the new trains for operation on the PTA and Arc Infrastructure rail networks. A total of 41 new EMU (Electric Multiple Unit) and 2 DMU (Diesel Multiple Unit) trains will be certified.

The project has started and is expected to complete in 2029.
