Danish Road Directorate Vejdirektoratet has chosen BESIX & MT Højgaard Denmark to build the Nordhavn Tunnel in Copenhagen. Signing is expected after expiration of the standstill period mid-September 2022. BESIX is the lead contractor in the consortium formed with its Danish partner MT Højgaard Denmark, appointed to deliver EUR 346 million Design & Build contract. This technically complex contract includes the design and construction of a 1.4 kilometers cut and cover road tunnel from Svanevænget across the Svanemøllehavn harbour and out to Nordhavn. Part of it will run under water for 700 m. The scope of works also covers local roads and junctions to be built in connection with the tunnel, as well as mechanical and electrical installations and several traffic control and monitoring systems. The tunnel will create more direct access to the urban development areas in outer and inner Nordhavn. It will connect Østerbro with outer Nordhavn, improve access to port activities in the area and move heavy traffic away from the rest of the road network in Østerbro. Works will be carried out over 60 months and are expected to start immediately when the contract is signed in mid-September.
