Architect’s Journal reported that Bjarke Ingels Group has put forward plans for a 32,036 square meters office scheme next to the Financial Times building on London’s South Bank. BIG practice has been working with developer Landsec since 2018 on plans to replace the ‘tired and dated’ Red Lion Court site in Park Street next to the River Thames. The building’s design is described as an arrangement of ‘jumping blocks’ of differing sizes, which will house flexible workspace adapted to ‘modern requirements and the post-Covid working world’. The proposals include ground-floor shops, a health centre, a pedestrian route and pocket park between the Thames Pathway and Park Street and a new public green space facing the river and the Anchor pub.Red Lion Court and the neighbouring 1 Southwark Bridge Road, the former home of the Financial Times newspaper, were both identified as a key development opportunity in Southwark’s local plan. Last year BDG Architecture + Design won approval for its plans to overhaul the Financial Times buildingLandsec bought the building for GBP 67 million in 2005.
