Grimshaw and ASPECT Studios, in partnership with the Eastern Maar Aboriginal Corporation, are designing the Coastal Works for the Twelve Apostles Precinct Redevelopment Project. The project is part of AUD 500 million Geelong City Deal, a 10 year partnership between the Australian & Victorian governments and the City of Greater Geelong to revitalise Geelong and unlock the potential of the Great Ocean Road visitor economyThe coastal works will improve or build new coastal attractions and walking trails. The works include revegetation and safety improvements to the Loch Ard Gorge carpark, safety upgrades at Gibson Steps, upgraded visitor lookouts at Twelve Apostles and Gibson Steps including an all-weather amphitheatre at the Twelve Apostles lookout, a new bike and walking trail between the Twelve Apostles and Loch Ard Gorge, two new lookouts on the new Twelve Apostles to Loch Ard Gorge trail, upgrades to existing trails, and a new transit pod is proposed at Loch Ard Gorge to support sustainable transport within the Precinct.The development of the design has been driven by a strong and reciprocal working relationship with the Eastern Maar people, and as a result the Coastal Works will be culturally significant and enriching for the region.Grimshaw will manage the team of design experts to move the Coastal Works project vision into concept designs for community feedback later this year.
