Heatherwick Studio has unveiled an updated design for its first residential project in Canada. Commissioned by Bosa Properties and Kingswood Properties, the project in Vancouver will see the creation of two sculptural new towers, with an engaging streetscape that connects with the surrounding community. The new design sees the towers repositioned to provide non-restrictive views of the neighbourhood. A thoughtful use of soft lines, intricate latticework and sustainable and long-lasting materials provide a beautifully elegant silhouette for the city. Meanwhile, the outdoor living areas have been extended to build on a strong connection with the wilderness of British Columbia.Through a thoughtfully curated ground plane, the pedestrian experience is enhanced with continuous podium terraces and recessive balconies allowing for more natural sunlight, with strategically placed plantings offering a rich expression of biophilia. Publicly accessible boutique retail amenities are likely to include a destination restaurant, as well as covered and open outdoor spaces.1700 Alberni follows two other residential properties designed by the Studio – Lantern House in New York and EDEN in Singapore.
