The detailed concept was unveiled at the II Architecture and Construction Business Forum in Kyiv, a gathering of government officials, business representatives, builders, architects, and banks, all focused on working together to expedite Ukraine's rejuvenation, guided by the principle of "Build Back Better." The Confederation of Builders of Ukraine and the DMNTR | Home and Interior Media Group organized this significant forum.

Tetyana Skrypka, Head of the Construction Sector Project Office at Metinvest-SMC, emphasized the pivotal role of this project, stating, "The beginning of the country's large-scale reconstruction depends on the victory. According to our estimates, around 3.5 million tonnes of steel will be needed to restore housing and social infrastructure. We have steel for the reconstruction, and Metinvest is ready to meet the country's steel needs."

The "Steel Dream" presentation at the forum shed light on the prefabrication technologies that form the foundation of housing and social infrastructure projects. This approach involves construction using large, prefabricated elements, such as steel modules, frameworks, and platforms. Additionally, Metinvest-SMC introduced ready-made interior design solutions for various building types, adding an aesthetic dimension to the reconstruction effort.

The "Steel Dream" initiative is deeply rooted in the principle of "build Ukrainian" and fosters collaboration among various domestic producers. Over the past six months, approximately 50 partners have joined the project, including steel fabrication plants, designers, furniture manufacturers, and building materials producers. This diversity of partners ensures that communities have the flexibility to choose their desired level of finishing, including furniture and interior design.

Another fundamental aspect of this concept is the "Build Back Better" principle, which places a strong emphasis on prefabricated solutions, transparency in budgeting and construction schedules, sustainability, modularity, inclusiveness, and construction speed. For instance, under this approach, a single-storey house can be constructed in just three months, while an eight-storey building can be completed in nine months. Kindergartens, clinics, shelters, and schools can also be built with impressive speed.

The "Steel Dream" team collaborates closely with local communities to tailor projects to their specific needs and engages with international foundations to become suppliers of ready-made solutions.

Beyond Mariupol, authorities from two other Ukrainian cities have expressed their readiness to engage in the reconstruction process through the "Steel Dream" projects. Negotiations and project adaptation to local conditions are actively underway with several communities.

Given the considerable interest in the "Steel Dream" concept, particularly from international partners, the project team is in the process of seeking accreditation at international foundations for project approval.

As a brief background, Metinvest-SMC introduced the "Steel Dream" concept in May 2023 as part of Ukraine's recovery efforts. The initiative encompasses over 200 ready-made building projects based on three prefabricated steel elements: frameworks, modules, and platforms. These projects span residential buildings (ranging from one to eight storeys, dormitories, and hotels), social infrastructure (including schools, kindergartens, and clinics), and infrastructure facilities (such as parking lots, sports facilities, and underground shelters). These projects come with comprehensive documentation, covering estimates, construction schedules, planning, and technical solutions.
