For the first time in India, L&T Construction, the construction arm of Larsen & Toubro, has 3D printed a Ground plus one building with reinforcement. The 3D printed building, which has an area of 700 square feet and is situated at the Kanchipuram facility of L&T Construction, has been constructed with a special, in-house produced concrete mix using standard construction materials that are available indigenously. The building was printed using welded grid with both vertical reinforcement bars and horizontal distributors, fulfilling requirements in the Indian Codes and maximising construction expense.
3D printing is a process in which the material is printed under computer control. Printing quick prototypes, complex shapes and small batch processing using special polymers, metal alloys, etc. is primarily used in manufacturing industries. 3D concrete printing is still mostly in development across the globe.
