With the feasibility study completed, the long-awaited project of the TrenDeCercanía between Asunción and Ypacaraí advances towards the call for bids that is expected to be carried out under the PPP modality. Paraguay’s Ministry of Public Works and Communications is preparing to launch the call for bids for the suburban train, after the conclusion of the technical feasibility study of the means of transport that intends to cover the section between Asunción and Ypacaraí in Paraguay. Different technical meetings were held to present the results of the technical feasibility study of the commuter train between Asunción and Ypacaraí, which is progressing towards the call for bids which is expected to be carried out this year. The call for bids, within the framework of a public-private alliance, plans an initial investment of USD 300 million. The commuter train is framed within Law 5102/2013 or Public-Private Alliance, and in a first phase it will be built between the Central Station and Luque, using the domain strip and the stations of the old historic Carlos Antonio López railway in double track The implementation of an electric rail transport is expected, whose speed would be 30 kilometer per hour and will be integrated into the public passenger transport system through electronic ticketing. The commuter train could end its journey at the station located on Artigas and Peru avenues, from where the electric buses will bring passengers towards the Government offices in the Port area. Current precarious occupants of Artigas Avenue will be relocated to the San Blas neighborhood, behind the Silvio Pettirossi International Airport, whose construction to date presents an advance of 40% and is by the Ministry of Housing and Urbanism. The feasibility study for the commuter train was prepared by the company Korea Overseas Infrastructure & Urban Development Corporation, an institution under the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transportation of Korea.
