Peab has been commissioned to build a new bridge to the new city borough Varvsstaden in Malmö. The customer is Malmö City and the contract is worth SEK 206 million. Peab will build a bridge for pedestrians, bicyclists and mass transit as an extension of Styrmansgatan, diagonally westward towards Varvsstaden. The project also includes building two piers, a staircase and risers. In addition, Södra Varvsbassängen will be raised and a new staircase built. Södra Varvsbassängen will be graded up by placing 50,000 square meters of excavated soil in three layers with an average depth of 6.5 meters to 4 meters.A bridge to Varvsstaden will contribute to smoother communication for pedestrians, bicyclists and mass transit and thereby reduce car traffic to and from Västra Hamnen. The project is a turnkey contract and is expected to be completed in the November 2024.
