Skanska has signed a contract with Bergen municipality for the construction of the new Garnes Ungdomsskole in Bergen. The contract has a value of NOK 370 million. The new school will have an area of approximately 9,300 square meters BTA and will have a capacity of 500 pupils, as well as a reinforced special department with room for 20 pupils with special needs. The project has high environmental ambitions. The school is being built as a passive house with extensive use of solid wood, and will be certified according to BREEAM-NOR level Very Good. Energy wells will supply the building with heat and the construction site will also be operated as an emission-free construction site.As part of the contract works, the old school is to be demolished, and an existing sports building is to be rehabilitated. A new energy center will also be built to serve both the new school, the sports hall and other municipal buildings in the local area.Demolition work will start during the fourth quarter and construction will start in the first quarter of 2023. The project is to be handed over in the second quarter of 2025.
