Shanghai Tunnel Engineering Company Limited has been selected to build a 5.6 km tunnel for the Delhi to Meerut Regional Rapid Rail Transit System, one of three major transit systems planned to knit together the Delhi National Capital Region. The Chinese company submitted a bid of USD 153.8 million beating Larsen & Toubro’s second-lowest bid of USD 159.7 million. STEC will now build the underground section from New Ashok Nagar to Sahibabad.
Awarding the contract is the National Capital Region Transport Corporation.
The NCRTC invited bids for the tunnel on 9 November 2019.
STEC’s tunnel section lies on a 17-km section from Sahibabad to Duhai, set to begin operating in 2023, ahead of the entire line opening for business in 2025.
