London based smart sensor network company UtterBerry and project collaborator Connected Places Catapult have partnered to bring safer environments to the construction industry in the Philippines. The systems’ patented on-board Artificial Intelligence & Machine Learning algorithms will gather and analyse any existing data to provide predictions for future physical changes in the environment. The goal is to embed smart sensors into construction projects to remotely monitor infrastructure and increase construction safety, supporting the country in meeting its UN Sustainable Development Goals targets. A system that provides the opportunity to diversify employment in the construction industry, by creating data-driven and decision making roles, is a key project aim. The project, which was in competition with 275 other proposals, is now one of 30 that has been accepted into the second cohort, running from December 2020 to May 2021. The Global Challenge Research Fund Demonstrate Impact in Developing Countries competition is managed by Innovate UK and has the purpose of identifying market-creating innovations that have the potential to transform lives in lower-income countries and emerging economies.
