blast that rocked Beirut on August 4, the CMA CGM Foundation has decided to send additional basic necessities and supplies by booking space on vessels that regularly serve the Lebanese capital. The latest departure from Marseille was on October 21st. In all, 32 TEU containers were loaded aboard the Pinara. They contain food, medical and personal hygiene supplies, educational equipment and furniture. They are due to arrive in Beirut on November 4th and will then be handed over to 11 non-profit partners, well known for their front-line work. These include the Arcenciel, Offre Joie and Nawraj NGOs.
18 donors (non-profits and French local authorities) took advantage of the arrangements put in place by the CMA CGM Foundation. The continuation of the relief effort was made possible by harnessing the expertise of the CMA CGM Group’s staff members to support and assist the donors.
This latest humanitarian relief effort is part of the Containers of Hope operation launched by the CMA CGM Foundation in 2012 to make the CMA CGM Group’s expertise and infrastructure available to major humanitarian organizations specialized in delivering emergency relief.
