Hamburger Hafen und Logistik AG continues to invest in modernising its facilities at Container Terminal Burchardkai. With the delivery of the last four engine houses for the new storage cranes, CTB reaches a milestone in the expansion of the storage crane system at the terminal. At CTB, four additional storage blocks will be added to the yard currently operated by 15 automated, electrified storage blocks. The yard is in the process of being modified from the original van carrier yard to the new block storage system with significantly increased space efficiency. Following the installation of the new storage cranes, the required twelve engine houses have now been delivered to the CTB. In cooperation with the manufacturer Künz, the last four engine houses were transported from the factory in Slovakia by truck to Bratislava and from there by barge via the Danube, Main, Rhine, Mittelland Canal and finally via the Elbe to Hamburg. The four storage blocks are scheduled to be put into operation one after the other in the first quarter of 2023. The upgrade to the new storage crane system will not only significantly increase space efficiency, but also improve the productivity of the container terminal. In addition, the electrified storage cranes are a further investment in HHLA's sustainable future, as CO2 emissions are reduced through the use of electricity from renewable sources. With its sustainability strategy “Balanced Logistics”, HHLA is aiming for climate-neutral production throughout the Group by 2040.
