Aluminium Stewardship Initiative announced that Novelis do Brasil has been successfully certified against the ASI Chain of Custody Standard at the Pindamonhangaba rolling facility and its recycling collection centers throughout Brasil (Cariacica Distribution Center and the Collection Centers at: Ananindeua, Bauru, Brasília, Campinas, Curitiba, Juiz de Fora, Parnamirim, Pindamonhangaba, Recife, João Pessoa, São Paulo, Sertãozinho, Salvador, São Gonçalo). The recycling and rolling operations at Pindamonhangaba, Brazil achieved Performance Standard Certification in October 2021, while the 14 aluminium recycling collection centers and distribution center were then added to that Certification via a scope change audit in June 2022. The plant at Pindamonhangaba is one of the world’s largest integrated sites dedicated to beverage can recycling and aluminium rolled products. Its annual production volume is approximately 694,000 tonnes of aluminum sheet, primarily destined for use as beverage packaging. The ASI CoC Standard sets out requirements for the creation of a Chain of Custody for material that is produced and processed through the value chain into diverse downstream sectors. The implementation of ASI’s CoC Standard links verified practices at successive steps of the supply chain – certified under the ASI Performance Standard – to the products produced by ASI Certified Entities. The CoC Standard also confirms that appropriate policies and due diligence process are in place to identify and address critical issues, such as corruption, human rights abuses, materials originating from conflict-affected and high-risk areas in the supply chain and support responsible sourcing. The independent, third-party audit of the Novelis do Brasil Pindamonhangaba facility and 14 recycling collection centers and the distribution center was carried out by DNV Business Assurance Services UK.
